Re: Working without Model Manager

Trust me, you need to be using Model Manager.

Re: dynamic modeling vs. synchronous technology

From what they are telling us, right now it is an either-or situation. You can either continue to create models the "old" way, with a history tree, or you can create them (or convert them) the "new"...

Re: parametric parts (pulley,...)

Be aware, though, that there are severe limitations to the parametrics capabilities of OSD. Cast and molded parts are especially difficult to parameterize because the things you want to control -...

Re: PTC takeover of CoCreate

Yeah, then we can have SolidEdge, SolidWorks, and SolidDesigner.

Re: PTC takeover of CoCreate

I doubt the situation is as dire as all that, Pete.

PTC has no doubt watched the debut of SpaceClaim a few months back, and noticed that there is indeed a market segment of CAD users who don't...

Re: PTC To Acquire Leading Product Development Software Provider CoCreate

I do not think that PTC is going to rush out and try and change OSD into a parametric modeler. They are clearly trying to enter the "explicit" modeling market (I very much like this new term, by the...

Re: PTC To Acquire Leading Product Development Software Provider CoCreate

Wow, I was a CADDS4x users. CV was the first CAD package I used, back around 1988. I could type commands into the keyboard buffer, and fix typos, faster than the software could process them! :)

Re: PTC To Acquire Leading Product Development Software Provider CoCreate

Here's what I bet is going on:

PTC saw the new non-history modeler come on the block - SpaceClaim - and they have decided that they need to play in that market segment of CAD also.

I just...

Re: OneSpace vs. SolidWorks

John:

The parametrics module in OneSpace Designer is so weak that you are limited in the parameters you can apply. The tapered cylinder example is a classic, trivial example of the...

Re: OneSpace vs. SolidWorks

(continued)

I have not found this to be the case. Often when attempting to edit existing drafts or tapers, especially on heavily drafted and tapered parts, such as with cast or molded...

Re: OneSpace vs. SolidWorks

Marten:

Actually, your thought process should be like that of anyone who is considering the fit, form, and function of a part they are designing: "What relationships are important about this...

Re: OneSpace vs. SolidWorks

Hi Steve,

In my opinion, once you have used an "intelligent" modeler you will never be satisfied with a "dumb" modeler.

I started using CAD back before solid modeling was commonly available,...

Re: Cadalyst - MCAD Modeling—History . . . or Not?

The thing is, in the CAD world, "history" is the means by which you define features to which you then assign relationships.

Without history, you cannot define relationships to theoretical...

Re: Cadalyst - MCAD Modeling—History . . . or Not?

That was not the point of the analogy. I was not trying to say it wasn't useful, even if in special cases. The question is, is it useful if that is your only option.

Clearly, the whole point...

Hi Nadia,

Presumably you are programming tools for OneSpace but are not a user of the software?

I'm a user but don't know anything about programming for it! :)

Workplanes are just that - a...

Don't save Annotation drawings using Designer Drafting!

You can delete both documents and Masterdata in Model Manager today.

As May pointed out, though, you cannot delete documents that have parents.

What this means is you cannot delete any model...

Re: Machine Design - Comparing 3D CAD modelers

Every time I read this I'm highly skeptical. At my company, we've had problems with loading and working with some of our "larger" assemblies - and they only have about 1500-2000 parts in them. It...
