Updating views : possibility for interrupting

When updating the views while having autosave on is a real disaster here when working on big models.

With big models i mean, lots of parts or complex ones. When i update the views in annotations i takes HOURS before he has finished doing it. Time which i cant afford! I have the impression that it happens when autosave is triggered while updating the views.

I dont want to shut off autosave cause i dont want to loose all my work because of a pc crash.

On the other hand : all i do right now is wait. On top of it i cant interrupt the update and temporarily shut off autosave and so hopefully speed up the proces.

This is a major problem. So there should be a failsafe : interruption of annotations with backup of model and drawing.

Re: Updating views : possibility for interrupting

Autosave is NOT called during view update!

Have you add some stuff to the view update events?

Do you now how to trace? then trace view update and autosave, and watch the console (resp. scroll back). Proof that it's called instead of assuming so.

Do you use graphical update for your views? Which view profile is chosen (automatically) when you create a new view of your big model? Are you doing multiple view updates? - Which Modeling version is in use?

Re: Updating views : possibility for interrupting

Update : today i did an update of the views without autosave active and no problems now. The autosave i used is timetriggered, after 30 minutes it takes an autosave. Now i let it save after 100 steps.

This is not a one time problem. I dont have proof since i am not a programmer but from experience and trial and error i thought that was the problem.

In answer to your questions wolfgang :

1. I did not add stuff to the view update events.
2. I dont know how to trace. If i find the time i will check how to.
3. Graphical update : not relevant : the same action (update views) was performed in five minutes while yesterday it didnt even work after an hour.
No changes were made to the preferences ever.
4. View profile : under view profiles i find a blank , no profile is mentioned
Under default settings i cant find what is automatically used.
5. I am doing multiple views update but that is not relevant since today it worked well.

Apart from what the problem is, i still have this enhancement request to have the possibility of being able to interrupt the update view (or any other command ) when freezing everything. Saves a lot of time and money. A lot!

But if you want to stop any command, just lunch command
Quote:
sdkill -8
from command line - start exec

Re: Updating views : possibility for interrupting

Thx to shaba.

But i needed to copy/paste the exe file like this in the 'run' bar :

"C:\Program Files\CoCreate\OneSpace Modeling 2007\sdkill.exe" -8

Comments on the work floor are that it doesn't work all the time.

As for the autosave problem : i still cant confirm if that was the troublemaker while updating view.

Re: Updating views : possibility for interrupting

I quit using the Autosave feature several version ago because I was experiencing the same issue.

If I had autosave on, and I updated a large view or drawing, there were times that everything just froze up and I could not recover.

After turning autosave off, the problem went away. I have not tried autosave since.

Re: Updating views : possibility for interrupting

Thx tom!!! I was starting to think i was the only one experiencing that. I really hope they do something about it. Right now we use workmanager but the version that doesnt manage our models.

Any one of cocreate can respond to this issue?
