Nice One JBruce!!

I really can't see any reason why PTC would merge the technologies. They need a conceptual modeling system and OneSpace can fill that void. They also need a tool that is more open and freeform for those companies that are not so spec-driven and do not require the highly constrained models. They should at least improve data transfer between the two - although probably limited to geometry only. Tighter integrations to some of their other products might be kind of nice. It is interesting to speculate - but time will tell.

Industry Analyst Feedback

Aberdeen Group
http://www.aberdeen.com/c/report/market_alert/4566-MA-ptc-acquires-cocreate.pdf
Chad Jackon commented, "Through this acquisition, PTC continues the consolidation of the CAD marketplace, becoming the only solution provider that offers a CAD application, Pro/ENGINEER that is focused primarily on the parametric feature-based modeling approach and another CAD application, CoCreate that is focused primarily on the freeform modeling approach, leaving engineering departments with the opportunity to turn to a single vendor that offers both kinds of solutions."

ARC Advisory Group
http://www.arcweb.com/txtlstvw.aspx?LstID=1e434b80-6805-4d90-bc8b-7879fa24299b
Dick Slansky commented, "The acquisition of CoCreate by PTC clearly enhances PTC's entrenched market position in the MCAD space. CoCreate's Dynamic Modeling-based and lean approach to product development will add some very significant technical value to the PTC product portfolio, as well as the addition of a sizable and loyal customer base. Overall, this is an excellent acquisition by PTC and a continuation of the consolidation of the PLM market."

CIMdata
http://cimdata.com/newsletter/2007/44/03/44.03.16.htm
"The combination of CoCreate's product suite with PTC's current offerings will provide users with a broad range of design methods, including 2D and 3D modeling using parametric design, explicit design, or models derived from existing designs as well as effective heterogeneous environment collaboration tools."
