OneSpace V14C will not save/load .pkg files

Hello,

I've got an odd one, never seen this before. One user who can't open .pkg files but can open .igs, .stp, .sat etc...

when loading a pkg file Modeling doesn't give an error... it just behaves like nothing was done.

after creating a simple box and trying to save it, you receive an 'not enough memory or temp directory full' error. it has nothing to do with memory, the machine has 2gb of RAM and about 80gb free disk space.

I've tried uninstalling everything CoCreate, deleting the persistent settings directory under 'Application Data/CoCreate', reinstalling... same thing happens

OneSpace V14C on XP pro. HP XW8000 workstation.

Aone have any ideas what's going on???

Re: OneSpace V14C will not save/load .pkg files

Is there a difference between loading the package files from a local disk or from the network?

What happens when saving a model in backwards-compatible format (13.20)?

What happens if you run Modeling as a different user on the affected machine?

Re: OneSpace V14C will not save/load .pkg files

Claus,

It doesn't matter if you're trying to load from the local disk or a network share, same results. The version of the file doesn't matter either.

I haven't tried loading or saving as a different user on the machine, but the user is an administrator on his machine.

I thought it might have something to do with read-only access on the temp directory where OSDM compresses/decompresses while saving or loading.

As I said, the load process doesn't give an error... it just behaves as if nothing happened. the save process does give an 'error 405', and suggests the temp directory might be full or virtual memory low... neither is applicable though, I checked.

very odd, I've never seen this happen before.

Re: OneSpace V14C will not save/load .pkg files

Reading and writing package files requires access to temporary directories, so maybe it'd be worth checking the permissions.

You could use Process Monitor to trace file accesses and find out more - see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx .

Re: OneSpace V14C will not save/load .pkg files

thanks Claus! I'll give that a shot and see if anything is failing. I'll also check the rights on the directories... although, I'm not sure why they'd change. then again, our IT group has this nasty habit of pushing out system policy changes without telling anyone.

I'm not saying those permissions must be wrong - just guessing and throwing some ideas in the air 8-)

Good luck,

Claus

Re: OneSpace V14C will not save/load .pkg files

what's the result of
1)
(display (oli:sd-inq-temp-dir))

2)
(display (oli:sd-inq-file-status (oli:sd-inq-temp-dir) :write-access))
;; with directly following
(display (oli:sd-inq-error-obj :all))

what's the result of
3a)
(display (oli:sd-gen-unique-filename "c:/temp/"))
and:
3b)
(display (oli:sd-inq-file-status(oli:sd-gen-unique-filename "c:/temp/"):write-access))

Re: OneSpace V14C will not save/load .pkg files

Must say thank you to Chris Whitman and the team at CoCreate Support... They figured it out.

The user does a lot of telneting from box to box, and was sick of doing the DOS 'cd..' to change the directory from 'C:\Documents and Settings\<username>' to 'C:\'

so he edited his system registry and changed a key:

My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor\Autorun [Data = cd \C:]

The "fixed" registry key is (the way the registry should be) :
My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor\Autorun [Data = blank]

the problem was, in the CoCreate compression/decompression code, it assumes the directory in a normal command prompt is going to be 'C:\Documents and Settings\<username>' when running the code to create or load a .pkg file.

Thanks for the help Chris!!

Thumbs up Re: OneSpace V14C will not save/load .pkg files

Actually, thanks should go to the wizard Claus.

Glad it's working now, that was a weird one!
