Got new monitors and everything looks a bit jagged
I'm hoping we can still post creo (elements/direct) questions in here because this one's puzzling me...
I just got a couple new monitors that are bigger and higher resolution than my old ones. I don't know if this has something to do with that or not, but my view resolution looks kinda low when I'm viewing 2d drawings in annotation or just in the 3d viewport, lines look jagged (which would be solved if I could seem to figure out how to turn on an anti-aliasing setting or something, but the only one I could find was in the redraw settings and it doesn't seem to do anything. It seems odd that there aren't more graphics settings in this software. |

Re: Got new monitors and everything looks a bit jagged
Which version of software are you using? What video card do you have.
Antialiasing is only availalbe if you have a graphics card that can handle it. Tom

Re: Got new monitors and everything looks a bit jagged
Sorry, i should have been more specific. I'm using Creo Elements/Direct Modeling. My video card MIGHT be the issue, considering it's not one of PTC's certified cards (or whatever the deal was with that. ) but it's an ATI Radeon HD 5670 . It tends to cause the software to crash when I turn on enhanced realism (I believe specifically it was the shadows setting that caused it)
Turning the AA settings on in ATI's control panel does nothing (though I'd assume maybe it would have an affect when running games?) . This is probably beyond the scope of this post, but would you happen to have any suggestions (or possible places I could look to find this info) for the -right- video card for this software? my company purchased this computer a couple years ago, and while it's very good in terms of raw specs, the graphics card I chose doesn't handle CAD well , so I'd like to find one that does, hopefully. Thanks ! |

Re: Got new monitors and everything looks a bit jagged
As a suggestion, I would look at the Nvidia quadro series. We have tried several different cards and Nvidia seems the best.
Currently, I am using a Quadro 4000. The graphics are excellent. I never crash with any of the settings. The graphics are smooth with no apparent edges, unless the facet resolution of a part is poor. regards Tom

Thanks Tom, I'll look into those. I was just viewing some AMD FirePro w5000's for pricing, but I'll look into the Nvidias too.

Re: Got new monitors and everything looks a bit jagged
To be on the safe side, look for AMD/ATI or Nvidia cards that are OpenGL compliant for any CAD software workstation. OpenGL 4.1 or newer would be ideal. Anything old and the card may be obsolete on the next few CAD software releases.
Most CAD software companies require the OpenGL compliant cards vs the gamer series of cards out in the market place. Sure, the gamer cards are high ended, but the OpenGL may or may not be present on those cards.

Re: Got new monitors and everything looks a bit jagged
Im even scared to buy AMD cards because the Nvida has proved so effective over the years. I see AMD cards are on the approved list of video cards w/ PTC

Re: Got new monitors and everything looks a bit jagged
In version 18.1, there are some settings available under File -> Settings -> Redraw, such as Antialiasing, Phong Shading, Occlusion Culling, Optimize Graphical Model. These may make a difference if your graphics hardware support them.

Dan's parameters are located at [File], [Settings], [Viewport ...], [Redraw].
