moving cylinder faces on a belt
Hi,
I need to move a roller and want that the belt on it follow the moving keeping tangency (see attached picture and file) It seems i can't use "move face" for this... How do you deal with that ? Shall i need to redraw the belt each time ?? For example, moving the lowest roller in the jpg attached from 20mm right... Are there some way to do that maybe with parametric module ? Thanks |

Re: moving cylinder faces on a belt
The parametrics module may help a little, but it is fairly simple to do this with the basic functionality. Move one of the rollers to the location you want, then use Modify 3D > Move, and select the inner and outer cylindrical faces of the belt that need to follow the roller, use Translate Two Points (menus are a little different between v14 and v15) to define the move, then pick the center of one of the cylindrical faces on the belt for the FROM point, and the center of the roller for the TO point. Make sure you click on Keep Tan. This should work for most situations, unless you are doing drastic changes to the belt path.

If only it could work so... For the attached file, it's not working !!! and it's a very simple situation !! I've tried to move the lowest roller 30mm right and then the belt but modeling dispay an error !
Maybe, i've done something wrong ? |

Re: moving cylinder faces on a belt
Hum... What error do you get?
Sorry I can not load the file. What version are you working on? Attached are some images representing the process I used - I am running v14.5 1) the assembly with middle roller moved 2) select Modify 3D > Move, Shift pick the 2 cylinder faces on the belt, then shift-middle pick to close selection 3) the Move dialog with the translate option Two Points selected - then use ctrl/shift (to catch center) and pick circular edge of one of the cylindrical faces on the belt - then ctrl/shift and pick circular edge on roller. Notice "Keep Tan" is checked on in the dialog. 4) preview feedback of the move function 5) completed part |

I'm using v15.50B...
Here is the file in v14 The error is "Non-manifold edge or vertex involved in local operation." then "The move of the selected faces is not possible."... The preview seems to be good but i've got this error when i want to complet... Thanks for your answer |

Re: moving cylinder faces on a belt
It works fine on 14.50. Maybe there is a problem with 15.50. If I have some time I can install 15.5 and try it - or maybe someone else can try it for us???

Re: moving cylinder faces on a belt
The move seems to work (with the method suggested by Paul) with Version 14.xx, but fails with version 15.xx
