Question Where/How Much to Buy CC Modeling 17 in US?

Hi...

I've been using CC Modeling PE 3.0 for some personal projects, and also a bit for work. I'm considering whether I should buy Modeling v17 to eliminate the restriction on part count and, more importantly, to allow me to save the files in a format that is more universally acceptable. But I've been unable to find a price/location in the US where I can order the program. Can anyone point me in a direction? Am I going to have a heart attack when I hear the price , since it'll be coming out of my pocket?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
Charlie

CoCreate is not a cheap product. Overall it is pretty competitive on pricing. This link has the contact numbers of where to buy.

Re: Where/How Much to Buy CC Modeling 17 in US?

Charlie,

For companies, CoCreate can be helpful and useful. For the individual, the cost may not be attractive enough to justify going to the full package.

If you are looking for a CAD package without busting you wallet on a individual level, have you tried ViaCAD? It's been retailed for $99 since 2007 and comes with all the good features of a higher priced CAD package. The Pro version offers more tools and if you opt for the previous release, you get nearly a 40% discount from retailers. This usually is only a few dollar more. http://www.punchcad.com/products/viacad2d3dV7-features.htm

Another individual CAD package is Alibre, it competes well with CoCreate PE and files the data in the "normal" format that the Alibre-Pro uses. Also, it has more import/export than CC PE. Of coures it's only $99. Upgrading to the Pro for $500 gives you STEP/SAT/IGES/SolidWorks translators, Sheet metal package, 2d/3d PDF publishing, photo realistic, and more.

If you have been around in past 15 years, the 3D CAD/CAM software of Cimatron was well known. It's now called VisiCAD and in most instances it's FREE. Why? because the company really focuses on the VisiCAM to sell and support to make money. Thus, the more people who know VisiCAD will in time get their CAM software too. BrotherSoft has the FREE download for it. It was offered at many retailers for $99 and then $49 in the last few years.

More of the well known CAD pacakges that would fit your liking, but not your wallet are SolidWorks, TurboCAD, AutoCAD-Inventor, CoCreate, VariCAD, Pro/E, and SolidEdge. The higher ended CAD of Catia, UGNX and others run in the 10K or more range per each software license.

Some say Hyper CAD is another package to consider. It retails from the rock bottom of $30 to $200. Other add-ons are HyperMilling and HyperCNC.

About 10 years ago there were many 3D modelr packages. They either gave up or just became absorbed by their competitors. Other than CoCreate, the other CAD package I'm on absorded four others over time.

There used to be promotional programs every now and then which allowed you to upgrade from PE to a full version. I believe the terms were roughly 1K Euros) for the upgrade, plus a support contract for a year. See http://cadplatsen.se/admin/bildbank/uploads/Dokument/Kampanjer/PE_Upgrade_Flyer_1009-EN_EUR.pdf for a flyer describing one such campaign. Not sure if there is a similar promotional program underway right now. To find out more, check out the contacts lists at http://www.ptc.com/company/contacts/, or maybe you can also email to ENModelingPE@ptc.com.

When upgrading, PTC will also help you convert the PE files you've generated so far.

Hope this helps!

Claus

Sure, 1K plus support contract is a good offer, but it can still be a lot of money for hobbyists/enthusiasts.

Claus (wondering whether there might be a market for an entry-level version of CoCreate Modeling)

Re: Where/How Much to Buy CC Modeling 17 in US?

Claus,

I would certainly spend $100 or so for an entry level version that let me import/export to IGES and STP so I could coordinate with our Pro-E engineers...

Re: Where/How Much to Buy CC Modeling 17 in US?

before you buy cocreate you should ask PTC if they are going to give you the Lightning product should it eventually replace cocreate. You might also want to check out a product called spaceclaim www.spaceclaim.com. I think you can "rent" the software from them....aspects of it are certainly more modern than cocreate, however in other respects cocreate is more functional and comprehensive...

FYI: CoCreate has a plan that allows you to purchase yearly subscriptions to it's software.

Here is a link to contact the sales team. Select the one in your area

Just for clarity, "Project Lightning" is PTC’s “vision and strategy to redefine the mechanical CAD market”. It will result is a "suite" of special purpose products. "Lightning" is not an individual product. Be sure to check out the two videos at: http://www.ptc.com/project-lightning/ for more info. The details are coming on Oct 28.
