I had one error comming up, saying something about a volumename in windows. Should this this being able to run under XP?

We've been running the test on Windows XP systems without problems, as far as I can tell. What did the error message say exactly, and when did it occur (test initialization, during a spec ific test, or at the end)?
Thanks, Claus |

Error message
Claus,
During the initial test where nothing seems to happen, a window is popping up called "System Information" with the contents: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." I'm running XP SP1 english version. John |

And here's the latest summary. Thanks again to all contributors. I found some of the results a bit surprising, although they are often hard to compare because of the configuration differences. For example, the Quadro2 results vary in the range from 244 to 408 (on various 2.2 and 2.4 GHz systems). This sounds a bit fishy to me.

One question. How is the Overall Result computed? I didn't see the number you listed in the original text files that people posted.

Thanks for compiling the results, Claus. It definitely makes it easier to read.
Should there be a measurable performance difference between systems running SD9.X and OSD11.X? |

For each test step, a frame rate is calculated which is also converted into a "milliseconds per frame" value. The sum of the "milliseconds per frame" values is the overall result.
I'm attaching an updated version of the result summary; the new version has a note which explains how to interpret the "overall result" column. I also sorted the table by this column so that it becomes easier to tell slow from fast configurations, and added John's latest results. May: There probably are some differences in graphics performance between OSDM 2001 and later versions, but my expectation is that those differences aren't huge, at least when measured using viewbench. This assumption would have to be verified in more detail, though. Claus |

To make it easier for people to view the results, I have placed the HTML file from Claus on the CAUG web site.
http://www.cocreateusers.org/misc/viewbench_results.html Claus, if you can send me the updated HTML file in the future I can update the file at this link.

Omnibook 6000 - PIXEL_FORMAT=SOFTWARE
Out of curiosity I ran viewbench on the laptop again with PIXEL_FORMAT=SOFTWARE to see how much slower it would be. Oddy, it actually seemed to run a little faster. This environment variable is supposed to disable the 3D hardware acceleration and we sometimes use it to eliminate graphics problems. I don't think it was necessary on this laptop, I just wanted to see if it made a difference. The results are attached.

Re: HP Vectra
Maybe my viewport was too small?
I've compared my results with pkehoe's ones and mine seem better even if his machine is better (same video device with faster CPU and more RAM). Quote:
