Moving licensing servers

Dear CoCreate experts,

I'm a sysadmin for a company using CoCreate OneSpace Designer Drafting 12.01d.
We now need to upgrade our licensing server OS from 2003 - 2008 R2 within a few months. Is this something that I can do easily myself?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OS: 2003 R2 SP2
License: CoCreate OneSpace License Server 15.5.0 (2 floating licenses)

Thank you

Are you changing servers, too, or just upgrading the OS on the same hardware? Also, do you know if the license server software is using the network hardware ID, or a separate dongle?

You should be able to check by going to the license server machine, and in a web browser going to http://127.0.0.1:17171.

Then, at the resulting page, right at the top it should say something like:
CoCreate License Server @ <yourmachine>[0x001122334455].

Let us know what it says and we'll be able to provide more information...

Good luck!

andy

Re: Moving licensing servers

Dear Andy

Thanks a lot for your reply.
Since the server is out of warranty, I would prefer to install it on new hardware, but I'm currently just looking at different options on how to tackle this task.
Unfortunately I don't know if it's using the HW ID or a sperate dongle but I hope this helps:

MEls Rev. 15.5.0.0(2007/8/15) @ hostname.com[0x001d090de862] - First installation: 2008/10/29

Thank you.

This indicates that the License Server is using the network card. To use a different machine, you'd need to get the same network ID in the new machine (not generally doable, unless the network adapter is a separate card that can be moved to the new machine as well).

PTC might transfer the license to a new machine, but I've heard they will charge a fair amount to do it (though I have never done it, so I am not sure how much, if any, they would charge).

If you just want to re-install the License Server on the same machine after doing the OS upgrade, you can certainly do that. You'd just need to make sure you have a copy of the configuration file (usually MEls.conf on those older versions of the software). It's typically located in the directory where the License Server is installed.

I'd be glad to walk you through the process if you'd like.

Good luck!
