Section view of a part with helical features
I have modified one of my parts using the Helix Add function to create threads. When I update my 2D drawing the section view is replaced with a side view. I have already attempted to solve this issue using the Secure Part menu and the Thread Calculation menu.
Does anyone know how to override the software to force a section view on a part with helical features? Or, does anyone know how to create non-standard threads, male and female that are compatible with 2D section views? Thank you, Drew |

Re: Section view of a part with helical features
A picture might be explain a lot here because it works fine for me.
Below is a picture of a part that has some none standard thread form in an ID. The section view is just fine. A note on secure part, if it's secure, then it won't section. The way you've got it written above, it sounds like you secured it. |

Re: Section view of a part with helical features
I have attached a before picture and an after picture.
In the before picture I have grooves to indicate the location of the threads. In the after picture you will see the helical threads and the section view has been replaced with a side view. Thanks, Drew |

Re: Section view of a part with helical features
Also, My part is not secured. The change happened when I updated the drawing after adding the threads.

Re: Section view of a part with helical features
The mating part with female threads updates fine and the section view remains.
I added male threads to another part and the section view turned into a side view again. It seems to be a glitch with male threads only. -Drew |

Re: Section view of a part with helical features
What version are you using?
You might want to send your files into support because I did another simple one and it worked perfectly, even on the outside. Here are the before and after done in 16.00B. |

Re: Section view of a part with helical features
I'm using version 12. Perhaps this is a glitch fixed in a more recent version.
Thanks for checking male threads. |

If your model is not toooooo confidential you might sent it to one of use and we check it using an uptodate version. Or further reduce the model and upload it to the forum here. Questions: 1) Does part checker report any problem? 2) Do you have same problem when creating the standard and the section view from scratch? 3) have a look to your TEMP dir, update the section view again, sort TEMP dir by file date. Most recent file is a MI file ,,... and there might be a xxxx.log file, too (nearly same name) Are there any hints in the log file that the boolean operation to make the section does fail? ... I'm not sure whether V12 is writing the log file!

Re: Section view of a part with helical features
Thanks for the help, I rebooted everything and restarted the license server and the glitch seems to have fixed it self. I'm not sure what happened.
