Slow Response Converting 3D Models to PDF

I am using the licensed application module "3D PDF and U3D" under the Direct Modeling Applications menu. I have used this format in the past with good success, but this is the first time I have used "Save As... 3D PDF" with version 18.1. I am converting a sizable model (53 MB) and the software is locking up for at least 2 hours when converting. Then, the resulting PDF is unworkable because Adobe is too slow to respond. I have even tried exporting a sub-assembly of this model which is only 6 MB in size and the results are not much better. It still takes Adobe at least an hour to open the file, although afterward the results are better. At least I can pan and zoom, etc..

Anyone having similar issues with the 3D PDF & U3D data converter in CoCreate Direct Modeling 18.1?
