Using Web Services of CAD data distribution

Hello everyone,

I am looking into doing some work with web services to try to create an interface where people in purchasing can request CAD data without having to use model manager themselves. From looking at the customization guide, it definately seems like this is possible. (see attached images that reference this)

I am wondering if anyone has done this kind of thing before? Going through the Customization Guide does provide some good information, but any supplemental information could go a long way. Does anyone know of some good resources on how to develop web services for data exchange of this kind?

Thank you for any help,

Brent

Re: Using Web Services of CAD data distribution

Our company just exports an envelope STEP file and 2D DWG file for upload onto the supplier/distributor website.

The supplier/distributor website is much like McMaster-Carr, 3D Central, Testco, etc ...

Doing this has generated more customer flow to our products than having our sales people virtually knowing on email doors.

Re: Using Web Services of CAD data distribution

The web service of Model Manager is tricky. It does some things well and other things very poorly and/or very "slowly".

It is very easy to make an object in model manager available to others via a link. MM web services allows you to simply type in a url into the brower and immediately the browser will prompt the user to download the object.
This is mentioned in the help, and I have implemented this (for pdfs that reside in our MM)

You might want to consider buying a couple of seats of MM "Task Agent". This can be set so that MM will silently generate neutral 2D and 3D formats should you, say, trigger it by bumping the status to "released". At that point, the neutral files would be in the MM system and via a url link you could allow others to download the files via url.

what you should be aware of, however, is that there are almost NO RESOURCES out there, because, no suprise....no one uses cocreate products anymore, so if you google "model Manager web services" you will get almost nothing.

you should contact ptc support and ask them for any extra materials.

I have some stuff also, if you want it....sample c# code that interacts with the MM web services...

This is the reason why we export to a STEP file for the web.

In the years working with CoCreate, I've only shared with on other company that had CoCreate. It was very odd even finding someone in the USA even using it to exchange data with on an actual work project.
