DAT Tape Archive Retrieval

I have some data files that I archived to a DAT using an HP A2656 drive and like many, I've discovered that it is likely impossible to retrieve the data without the original system or something like it. I've already tried on an HP SureStore 5000 and I might have access to an HP C2954D. Does anyone have suggestions on either a service company or other guru that has the gear and knowledge to extract the data?

re: DAT Tape Archive Retrieval

FYI - Tape access problem solved thusly: The archives were actually made using SAM in HP-UX, not tar or cpio. Therefore, no other tape software could read it. I had access to an HP-UX system friday and discovered this. Using SAM I was able to extract the data and record it onto another tape using simple tar. That was able to be read on my NT box using WinTAR software.
