Pipes and Tube
Apologies as i am fairly new to thsi site and this software, so bare with me =)
just been given the task to 3D model some fairly complex tube/pipe arrangments, i wondered if there was an easy way of modeling these up, including bends and variation of angles. if anyone could please point me in the direction of a suitable tutorial or at the very least towards a function/command to use would be hugely grateful thanks |

Re: Pipes and Tube
So I have done some of this in the past, the methods that I have used.
1) start by doing a simple extrude on the first straight section and then use the lift command to do the bends and further straight sections. works fine but can be a pain to tweak. does give you separate surfaces for the bends and straight sections at least. 2) generate a 3d spline and then sweep (lofting) along that spline. downside is that you get a single surface for the outside and inside and very hard to tweak. you end up going back to the spline and making changes there and then redoing the pipe. I've used this for doing wiring in the past. 3) someone at HP wrote a piping script long ago that did some of this. found what looks like a version of it at: http://osd.cad.de/lisp_3d.en.htm#04 look for "create square and round pipes" 4) there are commercial modules that do this but they are expensive so unless you are doing this a lot and can afford them, stay away. you can find links to them on the cocreate website under partners (don't remember exactly where) 1 is SpaceCable and the other is a german commercial piping program (big industrial stuff) hope this helps. |

Re: Pipes and Tube
The German forum has a lisp program "Create Square and Round Pipes"
The program is both in german and english and works very well, specify the pipe size, the start position and direction and "grow" the pipe from there. I use this program often and it does save a lot of time. Tom http://osd.cad.de/lisp_3d.en.htm

Re: Pipes and Tube
Load the file, and the program will be placed into your tool box.
Also you can add the load command to your sd_cusmomize file. Tom

Re: Pipes and Tube
I have suggested to users that if they own the cabling module they can also use this for tubing. The tools included in cabling make it very easy to create the tubing itself as well as define a tubing netlist and let the application route it in freeform. I define a cable in the library that is the same diameter as the tubing and the route it. If you are concerned with the finished volume of the tube for air or fluid model it with the ID and then use the part proerties to give you the volume.

When you say that there is an outside and inside, is that one surface for everything or a single surface for the outside and a single surface for the inside? Once the spline is made can it be converted into tangent lines and arcs to sweep the pipe that would give all of the surfaces at every bend and kink? If not, when the spline is updated, does the pipe update as well or would you need to re-sweep the pipe once the spline has been modified? The reason why I ask, I do many bundled wire-harnesses in automotive. Usually, I do the pipe/tube in UGNX and import them into CoCreate. It's easy to change the NURBS spline in UGNX as the pipe/tube follows on update. How hard is it to modify a spline in CoCreate?

Here is the one.( I guess.) http://osd.cad.de/lisp_3d_04.htm P.S. I could not load it from sd_customized with PE...... It works when I manually load it, though.

Re: Pipes and Tube
If your piping is made up of straight runs with analytical bends (IE: no spline curves), you need look no further than the CoCreate Modeling help files.
Click on Help-->Help Topics Make the Contents tab active. Select Documentation for advanced users Select the Integration Kit link Select the Examples link Select Piping User Action Use the text editor of your choice to create a new file. I suggest you use notepad++ that is included in your Modeling install DVD (It's great for CoCreate lisp files and CoCreate Drafting macro files) Copy the code from the help, and paste it into your new file. (do not copy and paste the first and last lines IE: the |# and the #|) Save the file as something like "piping.lsp" Load your new lisp file, and then you can run your program by selecting in the toolbox. If you like it, you can load this file at CoCreate Modeling startup from an sd_customize file. (You do have an sd_customize file, don't you?) |

Re: Pipes and Tube
Hi.
(I found the reason why it didn't load with my PE at home.) http://osd.cad.de/lisp_3d_04.htm This has multilanguage, so it works in English environment as well.

Re: Pipes and Tube
Does anyone have the lisp program "Create Square and Round Pipes"
from the german forum? If so, may I have a copy. I tried downloading it and got an error message that the path no longer exists. Thanks |
