parametric parts (pulley,...)
Hi,
is it possible to design a parametric pulley as in the screenshot to easily made different dimension of this pulley ? Thanks |

Have you looked at the Parametrics module? It allows creating parmetric relationships between faces and I think it could do something like this. It is not included with a Modeling license, you need a special license to run it (usually an Advanced Design license).

Be aware, though, that there are severe limitations to the parametrics capabilities of OSD. Cast and molded parts are especially difficult to parameterize because the things you want to control - the intersection of planar faces, you cannot "reach" as the system has no history to remember where the intersection edges were before blending.
For example, it is impossible to parametrically control the basic diameter of a cylinder with draft applied to it. For another example, it is impossible to parameterize the tapered block as shown in the attached image. On top of this, parameters are difficult to manage. While you could fully parameterize a part (within the limitations of the software), it is pretty clear that this is not what was intended. Because there is no feature tree, parameters are usually either always on or always off - you can't click on a feature and have only the relevant parameters light up. Now there is a "parameter browser" that lets you turn on and off individual parameters, but this is done through a text list and unless you gave meaningful names to your parameters it becomes difficult to locate the parameters you are after through this list. Consequently on a parameterized model when you have parameters shown you end up with a cloud of dimensions floating all around your model. I am a huge proponent of parametric modeling but after 4 years of using OSD I never found them worth the frustration. |
