Exclamation Sharing already existing components?

Hi i am a novice so forgive me if the question is dumb

I have a large assembly with many sub assemblies(say 10) within it.
Each of these subassemblies have a similar component (say A).
So A get repeated 10 times in the top level assembly. I guess usually share option is used in such cases.

My problem is that i have done the entire sub assembly modeling in NX and Pro/E (both) and imported it to cocreate as step and assembled them together in cocreate. SO i have many repeated components (same geometry )such as 'A' which come in more than one subassembly but they are not shared.

Is there any way I can at this point share the similar components in different sub assemblies, so that there is only one original component and the rest are instances of this. Also i want the different instance to appear in their subassembly in the assemble tree.

I hope the query is clear....thnx for any help!!

Re: Sharing already existing components?

Hi Zaphod,
try to use this lisp tool:

http://osd.cad.de/downloads/gb_ex_pa.lsp

(save it anywhere and after loading it in CAD, you have a entry in the toolbox)

As he said: Save the file somewhere, then drag and drop it into Modeling. Run the code using the entry in the toolbox.

Re: Sharing already existing components?

hi...thanx a lot for the reply....
but i still need some help...
when i run the lisp i get the following options SOURCE,DESTINATION,DESTINATION OPTS.
so if i want to replace 10 nuts with a nut, i am guessing that i should select the original nut as source and then select the 10 existing nuts i want to replace as the destination......when i do this all that is happening is that the 10 nuts which i choose to replace get deleted and the source remains....
what am i doing wrong.....? how is the source part brought into the modeling space..i just dragged the nut file from my desktop to cocreate and it appeared in my tree structure....then i used it as SOURCE...

PLEASE HELP...

Re: Sharing already existing components?

I never used this tool myself, but here's the description from http://osd.cad.de/lisp_3d.htm#39 :

Quote:
Load the new part and position it.

Start the tool, then choose the new part as "Source", then the old part as "Destination". Then click "Dest.opt" and open a selection list to select additional "destination parts" of the same instance.

After pressing OK, all selected destination parts are replaced by the source part.
Hope this helps,

Claus

Re: Sharing already existing components?

I played with that tool briefly yesterday and from what I can tell, it is meant for replacing existing shares with a new source file, not for "creating" shares where there were none originally. It does save time compared to how I used to do this (e.g. manually position/align each part one at a time), but it's not quite what I expected.
